How do we perform an MOT check Reading?

At the beginning of the test, our specialist inquiries about the vehicle's previous MOT background data. This is done to determine and detect persistent problems. In addition, a comprehensive inspection of the car is conducted. We follow all parts inspection which is directed by DVSA:

Braking system

The braking system of your vehicle is essential for maximum on-road driving safety. Damaged or worn-out braking components can potentially compromise your, and other road user’s safety. We will carefully assess the brakes on your vehicle to ensure they function optimally.

Lights

Poorly functioning lights can lead to visibility issues. During the MOT Reading, Our experts also test headlights, indicators, brake lights, tail lamps, fog lamps, etc. during MOT Reading Testing.

Exhaust

The exhaust system of your vehicle is instrumental in managing and reducing localised air pollution. This helps your car emissions to stay within the permissible limits. The emission level of your vehicle will determine the MOT results. We will check the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, silencer, oxygen sensors, etc.

Tyres and wheels

The condition of your car tyres and wheel rims influences the vehicle performance, safety and driving comfort. We will check the tyres to make sure they have a minimum tread depth of 1.6 mm and are free from any cuts and damages.

In addition, our team will also look for any damages to the wheel rim to ensure you enjoy the reliable on-road performance.

Suspension

Suspensions are crucial for enhanced driving comfort, safety and an overall smooth driving experience. We will inspect the components of your car suspension system, such as struts and shock absorbers, to determine their performance and efficiency.

Steering wheel column

A faulty steering wheel column can seriously affect the handling control. Our team will check the condition and the angle of the steering wheel column so that you can have a safe and comfortable driving experience.

Registration plates

Our experts will make sure that your car registration plates are undamaged and legible.

In addition to these, our testers will assess the following components during our MOT Reading:

  • Windscreen and wipers
  • Seatbelts
  • Horn
  • Battery
  • TPMS
  • Bodywork

You can see the full MOT testing checklist on the government website or directly at our workshop.

MOT certificates

VT20: Our facility will provide a VT20 certificate if your vehicle passes its annual MOT Test Reading. It is also called the MOT pass certificate.

VT30: If your vehicle fails to meet the required standards, we will issue a VT30 certificate. A VT30 certificate states that your vehicle has failed its MOT and needs to appear for a retest after all faults are rectified.

Types of issues

The issues that prevent vehicles from clearing the MOT are classified as follows:

  • Dangerous (such issues directly lead to MOT failure)
  • Major (These issues can also prevent your car from clearing the yearly MOT)

There are also so-called Minor faults. They do not result in an MOT failure. With these minor faults your vehicle will still pass its MOT, but they should be rectified in due course. A so-called advisory note will be issued with the VT20 certificate. The note will also stay in the system and will be looked at during the next MOT test.

MOT repair and retest

Our facility also provides efficient and reliable repairs and part replacements at affordable prices. If your vehicle fails the MOT, our experts will clearly explain the reasons behind the failure and state the requirements for passing it.

You can opt to get the issues repaired at our facility. If you let us carry out the repairs within the next 10 working days after the MOT failure, we will carry out a partial re-test free of charge.
